Donna brings experience, commitment, and passion to lead Ohio forward in 2020. Donna is ready to advocate for working people as they raise their families, access healthcare, take advantage of educational opportunities, and strive to feel safe in their schools and communities.
Donna Beheydt has experienced the challenges working families face. Donna is a daughter of the working class. Farmers, factory workers, mechanics, members of the Armed Forces, and big dreamers. Her parents dreamed of a better education, more opportunities, and a better life for herself and her siblings. She dreamed of life outside of rural Appalachia Kentucky tobacco fields and coal mines, so in January 1986, Donna joined and served for four years in The United States Air Force as an Intelligence Airman.
Donna Beheydt knows funding public education is key to Ohio’s future. Donna's path forward in education was difficult. She attended poorly funded public schools in Eastern Kentucky and rural Ohio. She earned an Associate’s Degree, in Paralegal Studies, from Akron University and became the first in her family to go to college. Donna was proud of her accomplishments, but she wanted more for her children. That is why Donna made their education a priority and did everything she could to help them achieve their goals. Donna has raised, with her husband of 27 years, a family of three children and two have completed their education. Today, Donna Beheydt is proud to say her daughter has a law degree, her oldest son has a bachelor’s in engineering, and her youngest son is attending The Ohio State University for Physics and Computer Engineering.
Donna Beheydt knows how important small businesses are to Ohio’s future. After the Air Force and after earning her degree, she had multiple careers. Most recently, Donna was a small business owner. This was by far the most difficult of her careers, but it was also the most rewarding. Donna has experience starting a business and knows the difficult decisions that business owners make, trying to make payroll while still needing to provide for a family. Donna Beheydt knows how important local businesses are to our economy.
Donna Beheydt is part of your community. Donna lives in Wadsworth, with her husband, Brian, in the home where they raised their three children, Jessica, Benjamin, and Connor. While the kids attended Wadsworth schools, Donna was very active in WHYS at Valley View as President and the Book Fair Coordinator. Donna currently volunteers at The Bookshelf, a Medina County Project Learn bookstore.
